Day 1

Urumqi

  • Urumqi, only for air transportation in this program, you could flight to Urumqi from most of Chinese cities and some near-by countries. In the fllowing 10 days, you will have a fantastic but tired journey:follow ancient silk road, from here across the 2nd largest flow desert Taklamakan to Khotan then Kashgar.

Day 2-3

Turpan

  • Turpan,a political, economic and cultural center in northwest of China since West Han Dynasty (about 150 BC),many cities rising and losting here; you will visit some of the ruin such as Jiaohe and Gaochang,BezeklThousand Buddha Caves,etc.

Day 4

Korla

  • Korla is not popular, but if we talk about Lop Nor, you will have several words in your mind: sea of death, ear of the earth, dark, got lost. We will discover the last Lop Nor village and mystery kingdom Loulan's Ruin here.

Day 5-6

Kucha

  • In sanscrit,ancient state in this area Qiuci(Kizil) was called Kucina, now it become the name of the city Kuche. In Kucha, all ruins are about Qiuci and its popular Buddihism Crottos. You will enjoy many beautiful wall paintings and the best protected Beacon Tower.

Day 7-8

Khotan

  • Khotan is really hot to Chinese because we Chinese all love Hetian Jade, but only very few people in China could get a real top Khotan Mutton-Fat Jade. Here you will discover Jade River and local Mosque in Khotan, and then go to Taklamakan Desert.
  • Taklamakan Desert, a flow desert, we will have a long camel ride into Taklamakan to have one night special desert tent accommodation. Also, we will discover the only Gandhara style themple ruin - Rawak Temple, it si also the earliest pagoda of China.

Day 10

Yarkan

  • Yarkan(Shache), was on the way of Khotan to Kashgar, we will pay a short visit to Yarkant Kings Tombs, it has over 500 years history and well-protected. The Mother of Uighur set music "Twelve Mukamu" - Oman nisha khan's memory hall is also here.

Day 11-12

Kashgar

  • Kashgar, our last destination on this trip. We will try to arrange you to have a sunday in Kashagar to discover the Famous large Sunday Bazzar, you will see more than 50,000 persons selling and buying donkeys, camels and sheeps, as well as other products here. So please adjust your flight schedule to meet sunday in Kashgar.

Day 2

Urumqi-Turpan,Turpan Sightseeing:Jiaohe Ruins,Karez Underground Irrigation System,Grape Valley

Program: After breakfast, drive about 2.5 hours to Turpan(195km), an depression oasis town 154 meters below sea level, its annual sunshine duration is 3200 hours, so its grapes and sweet melon are well-tasted.And from March to October is gale season, for using the wind resources, Dabancheng Wind Power Station was built in 1986. You will see lots of windmils on your way to Turpan along the highway.
After you arrive Turpan, you will visit Jiaohe Ruin which was built by Cheshi people with a history of over 2500 years but abandoned 600 years ago because of wars; the Karez underground irrigation system and Grape Valley:Turpan is famous for its grapes, especially the seedless variety, called sultanas when dried.

Day 3

Turpan Sightseeing:Aydingkol Lake,Flaming Mountains,Ancient City Of Gaochang,Bezeklik Thousand Buddha Caves,Emin Minaret

Program: Today we set off for the lowest elevation in China – Aydingkol Lake. Though it is only about 50 km from Turpan city but the road condition is all ready to give you a “free massage”.
In the afternoon, we continue to explore more of turban including the Flaming Mountain; the ruin of Gao Chang - an ancient Chinese Silk Road garrison town by Cheshi people where you will be taken by donkey cart to visit the temple area; the Bezeklik Buddha Caves was dig from 5-14 century and used to be the royal temple of Huihu Kingdom.
At last we visit Emin Minaret, a unique and Islamic building, also the largest ancient minaret in Xinjiang Region. It was built in the year of 1778 in Qing Dynasty.

Day 4

Turpan-Korla,Korla Sightseeing:Lop Nor Village,Loulan Ruin And Origins Of Tarim Basin

Program: In the morning, we drive 5 hours from Turpan to Korla(380km).On the way, we pass by Tianshan Mountain and Bostern Lake—the largest inland freshwater lake and reed base in China. After arrive Korla, we will visit the Lop Nor Village, the Lop Nor people's progeny are living here after tha lake Lop Nor dry up. You could discover Lop Nor lifestyle once upon a time and now. And then, we will visit the ruin of Loulan Kingdom, it was the silk road transportation junction during 170 BC to 630 AD and got lost, the reason of its lost is still a mystery; after that, the origins of Tarim Basin.

Day 5

Korla-Kucha,Kucha Sightseeing:Ruin Of Qiuci(Kucha), Kizil Thousand Buddha Caves

Program: After breakfast, it is about 3.5 hours driving to Kucha(280km) which is also called Kuche.
When Buddhism came to Kucha is not settled yet, but there is a popular belief by the historians that Buddhism Came to Kucha was earlier than to inland China via Silk Road from India. Just look at the last name of Kucha king Bai/Bo, in sanscrit called "Puspa" meaned "flower offering for Buddha"; you will get how important of Buddhism in that period. Buddhism declined here around 15 century because Mongolian force came to this area and preached Islam. So many ruins in Kucha are about the Qiuci Kingdom and their art on Buddhism.
Ancient Qiuci (Kucha) was a crossroads of the great cultures of India, Persia, Greece and China, and local painters selected elements of each and combined them to make a distinct Kucha painting style.You could see them in the caves and Grottoes.
After arrival Kucha, we will visit one of six main Buddhism grottoes by Qiuci Kingdom: Kizil Thousand Buddha Caves, the earlist, largest in the six . Unfortunately, many of the finer frescoes were removed by foreign archeologists in the early twentieth century; however, what remains is truly worthy to visit. The surrounding countryside is pretty area of mulberry and poplar trees and streams, which make a very pleasant afternoon. After that, we will visit ruin of Qiuci Kingdom, which is not only a kingdom, but also Four Garrisons of Anxi during Tang Dynasty, protect the silk road business transportation.

Day 6

Kucha Sightseeing:Kizil Kagha Grotto And Kizil Kagha Beacon Tower,Ruin Of Subashi,Kizilya Valley

Program: Explore another Buddhist grottos Kizil Kagha Grotto, which is famous for its Qiuci style Buddhism wall painting and Kizil Kagha beacon tower. The tower was built in Han dynasty (about 2000 years history), it is about 13 meters high, 12 - 15 meters thick; is the earlist and the most well-protected beacon tower on north silk road for military massage delivery.On our way to the red rocks Kizilya Valley, we visit the ruins of the ancient city of Subashi - "kingdoms of females". Because of water quality, Sushiba have more girls than guys. When a guy married a Sushiba girl, he would live with her family; so Sushiba is a matriarchal society. Well, you could also find the story about this females kingdom in the monkey king book "Journey to the west".

Kucha-Khotan,On The Way Pass By:Tarim River,Taklamakan Desert Villages

Program: We will have a long time driving today (650km), go  through Taklamakan Desert via desert highway to Khotan, because Taklamakan is a flow desert, for protecting the hightway, you will see "reed fence and reed square" to keep away the sands.Estimate time of arrival Khotan is about 6:00 pm.  we will pass by Tarim River - the longest inland river in China. Besides we also have the chance to see some of the desert-surrounded local villages. Upon arrival, check in hotel and  to take a good rest.

Day 8

Khotan Sightseeing: Jade River,Silk Village,Khotan Mosque;After City Sightseeing, Take Camel Ride Into Taklamakan Desert

Program: Khotan is the home to top Khotan Mutton-Fat Jade,in the morning, we enjoy a half day discovery the Holy Land of Jade to Chinese including the Jade River, Silk Village and a Khotan Mosque.
In the afternoon, the trip will be a highlight as we travel deep into the endless Taklamakan Desert. We drive half an hour to the edge of the Taklamakan and then hop on a camel ride. Our journey on camel back will last about 3 hours. As we travel through the glorious Taklamakan desert on the back of camel, we will gain a momentary glimpse of the ancient caravan journeys. Similarly as we camp overnight in the desert we sit beneath the enormous desert night sky, warming ourselves around a campfire - we can begin to appreciate our relation to the vast and uncompromising wilderness around us.

Day 9

Taklamakan Desert:Camel Ride,Ruin Of Rawak Temple; Khotan Sightseeing:Damko Temple Ruin

Program:  This morning, we tidy up our campsite and continue our camel ride to discover the ruin of Rawak Temple - the earliest pagoda of China. It is about 70 km away from Khotan city. It is the only temple which has a Gandhara style (similar form as Indian temple) which is well- preserved in Khotan area. The Uygur word "rawak" means "pavilion". The Buddhist pagoda was in the center of Buddhist temple .The temple was surrounded by a 45 m courtyard wall. In and out of the courtyard, there were large numbers of wall paintings, clay sculptures and Buddha figures.
Upon back to Khotan city, we will dirve about 1.5 hours(120km) to visit the smallest Buddhist temple in the world called Damko temple ruin. The site has just recently been found and is still very unknown to the world. In the exhibition room you could see the oldest pipa (traditional Chinese instrument) and some other mural paintings found from this ruin area.

Day 10

Khotan-Yarkan-Kashgar,Yarkan Sightseeing:Yarkant Kings Tombs

Program: Today is long day of driving. It is about 10 hours drive (520 km) from Khotan via Yarkan(Shache)to Kashgar. In Yarkan, we will pay a short visit to the Yarkant Kings Tombs, the tombs were built since 1533, there were 11 members of the family were buired here. And Oman nisha khan's memory hall, she is the mother of "Twelve Mukamu". Afther that, have lunch at Yarkan.
Oman nisha khan, in 15 century, she visited Yarkant artist, poet and flok singer, collected and Arranged classical set music of Uighur "Twelve Mukamu". In 2005 "Twelve Mukamu" was approved as "Representative Work of Human Oral and Intangible Cultural Heritage" by UNESCO.
Upon arrival Kashgar hotel check-in. If time permits, take a walk and exploration on the streets around hotel by yourself.

Kashgar Sightseeing:Id Kah Mosque,Handcraft Street,Kashgar Sunday Bazaar,Old Town Of Kashgar,Uygur Family Visit

Program: Kashgar is in the east of Taklamakan Desert; In 119 BC, Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty control this area,from that time, here was a cultural and commercial hub in silk road.
Now,Kashgar is the center of hand crafts such as iron, wood, cooper and gold products in Xinjiang Region. In the morning, we will have a city tour including the largest mosque in Xinjiang Region - the Id kah Mosque wich was built in 1422, and local Handcraft Street.
Thereafter, visit the outstanding Sunday Bazzar if today is Sunday(when our tour consultant arrange you this package, we will help you to arrange the transportation to fit the Sunday Bazzar time), the biggest bazzar in Asia. It attracts 50,000 people to join. Thousands of donkeys, camels and sheep, as well as a huge range of merchandise are selled in the bazzar, this will be a memorable experience (or visit the other daily commodities market 2 km from the town if not Sunday).
Late afternoon, we will take a walk into the Old Town of Kasghar and visit an Uygur family.
